So with the recent debit card issues going around. I thought I would share with you a few ways to safeguard your debit card. Remember these are tips and they aren’t fool-proof.
- Change your debit pin code every couple of months.
- Set up limits on your card for spending in one transactions or day.
- Never have a pin code that is your birthday, last four of your social security number and/or anything easy.
Main reason for the first two is because if you lose your purse lose cards could have been in your wallet or purse so it easy access. - Check your statements monthly and look for any charges not yours even if they are only a few pennies, that is how some thieves start to see if you monitor.
- Go inside the gas station to pay or use as credit.
- Never use the same pin code for your cards.
- If you use you card at debit, make sure you shade the screen before entering your code.
- Write down the number to the customer service for the bank in your car, office. So if something happens you can call ASAP instead after to late.
- If you have a bad feeling about an ATM, don’t use it. Some times people set up “fake” machines which seem to be fine but then are broken and then later you find out it captured your card information.
- If you feel someone got your pin code, simple call and change your pin code it takes 2 minutes and you won’t have to worry about your for days.
Remember doing these tips might seems silly to you while you read them but won’t you feel sillier if don’t do them and your information gets stolen. The longer you wait to call the bank after your card has gone missing or you see a random charge that isn’t yours the more your bank doesn’t have to cover, you have a time limit to call and report.
