Phone Safety for your Kids #tmobilesummer #SA

Yesterday I got to go to a blog event about cell phone safety for kids and I am so excited to share with you a few of the tips I learned. Some of you may know a few and some might be new to you. You never know if you don’t read, so go ahead – dive right in and at the end let me know what you think about it.
We all worry about kids and whether we should give them a cell phone or not. Would they be responsible or would they just be texting and calling people all hours of the night? I understand because I grew up in the age where teens having phones was the new up and coming thing. But after the Summer Safety event yesterday, I must say that times have changed more than most parents even know.
So here is a little bit of information everyone can use (some I added because they felt important to me) – then I will get into what T-Mobile has to offer.
• Keep an In Case of Emergency (ICE) number in your phone.
• Teach your kids to remember your phone number just in case the phone is ever stolen and/or lost.
• Make sure your kid has many local family members’ numbers in case something happens and they can’t reach you.
• Keep ALL poison control numbers, non-911 local contacts, doctors’ office and fire department on your phone (if you need help finding this information email me and I can help you).
• Explain to your kids about phone safety, when and when not to use it and let them know that you can check what they use it for.
• Explain and show them you can pull up anyone they talk to and/or text.

Now here are a few things I learned you could do if you have a T-Mobile account:
Family Allowance – You can limit your kid’s minutes, messages, money they can use for downloads and who they are allowed to call. If you kid goes over that allowance they can still call the primary account holder phone and you can change the limits easily on the computer or if you are mobile you can call 611 and they can update when the primary account holder calls. It is free for the first 30 days then $4.99 every month after that for the whole family.

T-Mobile FamilyWhere – You can now download an app on your kid’s phone so you can know where they are via GPS on a map. It will show up online and will text message you to let you know where they are at. This will help you know where you need to pick them up and if they are where they are supposed to be at. Free for the first 30 days then $9.99 for the whole family each month.

MobileLife Family Organizer – Helps you and your family know what events you have planned and you can set it up to alert everyone before the event. You can make a grocery list on the application which will sync with all other phones so it is updated in real time. You can also add a journal and make a to-do list. Free for the first 30 days then $4.99 for the whole family each month.
Lookout Mobile Security – This will help you find your phone when it is missing even if it is on silent so you won’t have a case of the missing phone for days. Also if your phone is stolen you can factory reset your phone to prevent anything from being stolen. This can be done via your computer.  Free anti-virus for your phone for the life of your phone and then get the extra features for $2.99 a person per month.

Web Guard – The most important one if your kid has a smartphone, it will let you set what limits your kid has for the internet. It can be set for your kid’s age or even what you feel they should be viewing. The choice is up to the primary account holder. It can be added to your kid’s phone very easily and is FREE FOREVER.

I used to have the family allowance when I had tmobile because my mom used to go over our minutes ALL the time and then I could never make phone calls! Then they’d get mad b/c they couldnt call anyone hahahaha
